Kevin is back with a lot of stories to tell about South Korea. Kevin spent 3 and a half months experiencing research life in Korea at Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) in Daejeon, South Korea. During his stay Kevin was able to extend some of his carbon steel corrosion research with a high-temperature flow system. He also performed other experiments on various projects relevant to the nuclear power industry. Throughout his stay Kevin traveled around Korea, experiencing culture, food, and fun. Most of the group members have attended the 33rd annual CNS 2012 Conference in Saskatoon. During the visit to Saskatchewan, they visited SRC'S SLOWPOKE II Research Reactor and CLS facilities, check out the photos here (June 2012)

Pam is a Visiting Researcher at the Notre Dame Radiation Laboratory (NDRL) in South Bend Indiana, under the direction of Dave Bartels. She will be looking at supercritical water radiolysis processes under a variety of conditions (pressure, temperature and dose rate) for the next 6 months (May 2012)

Kevin is currently attached with Dr. Jei-Won Yeon's research group at KAERI (Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute) in Daejeon, S. Korea for a couple of months. He will carry out some experiments concerning the corrosion behaviour of carbon steel under high temperature and pressure using a pressurized loop system. Kevin has created his own blog to keep us updated with his life over there, if you interested to know about Daejeon city from Kevin’s prospective please click here (March 2012)

Susan visited BNL (US) and she collaborated with Jim Wishart using the picosecond Laser-Electron Accelerator Facility. She attempted to observe the solvated electron in various ionic liquids with increased contact time with water (Jan. 2012)

Leena attended the Canadian Nuclear Society Conferences Photos (2011) in Niagara Falls and presented poster on her research.

We are happy to announce that our research group has expanded to include Rooms 036, 037 and 040. Please come by and visit our new space! Clara successfully renewed her IRC funding for the research program on Radiation Induced Processes, for another five year term. We hope the research group will be even more successful for this term.

We are delighted to welcome three new grad students in the past year, Quintin Knapp, Leena Alrehaily; Mehran Behazin and a postdoctoral fellow, Dr Lei Wang, to Clara's research group.

2010 was another successful and busy conferences season for the Wren lab. Several research associates, graduate students and post docs have attended many conferences this summer. Kevin, Sarah, Susan, Pam and Dong attended the CNS conference in Montreal, and presented posters of their work. Kevin won the best poster award for the PhD students category.

Jiju, Pam and Susan attended the Gordon radiation conference.

Susan was selected for an oral presentation while Jiju and Pam presented posters on their research.

Jamie, Pete, John, Kevin and Sarah attended the Gordon Aqueous conference and presented posters on their research. Kevin also gave an oral presentation in the student symposium.

Kevin, Susan and Pam attended the NPC conference in Quebec City. Kevin and Pam were each awarded $1000 from the Ontario Power Generation Student Participation grant, to attend the conference. All students presented posters, and Kevin and Pam also gave oral presentations at the electrochemistry and water radiolysis workshop.

Pam, Jiju and Dong showcased their iron nanaoparticle posters at the Nano Ontario workshop and Exposition held at UWO this summer, while Kevin, John, Quintin and Jamie attended a high temperature and steam water systems symposium in Niagara Falls.

Many lab members also participated in the ECS symposium at UWO. Kevin, Sarah, Pete, Jamie and John presented posters and Clara gave a talk. All the presentations were very well received. Several students attended the 92nd CSC conference in Hamilton, Ontario. Pam, Kevin, Sarah, Dong and Katy presented their posters while Jiju and John gave oral presentations.

We are delighted to announce that Pam won the best poster award for the Analytical Chemistry Division at the 92nd annual CSC conference in Hamilton. We also recently found out that Kevin won the best poster for Surface Science. Congratulations to you both

Congratulations to Dong Fu on his successful Ph.D. thesis defence this past winter. We wish him the best in his future endeavours at the NRC London. Congratulation to Pam for being awarded on OGS scholarship for 2010-2011.

Congratulations to Sarah for receiving one of the Chemistry Department aspire awards to go to Australia for three weeks, to perform some neutron reflectrometry experiment. We are looking forward to the upcoming annual IRC review in July, with folks from AECL Chalk River Laboratories. We are looking forward to visiting your facility.
